Hopkins Custom Tail Light Wiring Kit Installation - 2018 Ford Edge

Hello, neighbors, it's Brad here at Etrailer. And today, we're taking a look at installing the Hopkins plug-in diode wiring on a 2018 Ford Edge. Normally, when it comes to diode wiring, you are having to cut into the wires of the brake lights and tie in those diodes using spade connectors, and Hopkins kind of made this easy for us because it's simply plug-in. So it's kind of like hooking up trailer wiring, it just snaps into factory-like connections, you run your wiring up to the front and you can tie that in using either the included four-pole that's attached or we used a six-pole on ours. And diode wiring is gonna send the light signal from the RV through the umbilical to the taillights on the vehicle and that way, you can get your turn signals, your brake lights, as well as your running lights. And that's just gonna keep you safe and legal while flat towing your vehicle. more

Now in the 2018 Ford Edge, when it's being flat towed, it requires the key to be in the on position. When the key's in the on position while it's being flat towed, it could potentially run your battery down if you're going on a long trip. You can disconnect your battery each time you wanna flat tow it, or, what I recommend is Roadmaster's battery shut-off. more

Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit Installation - 2017 Ford Edge

Speaker 1: Today on our 2017 Ford Edge, you're going to be taking a look at and I'm going to show you how I installed the Roadmaster 4 diode universal wiring kit for towed vehicles with seven wire to six wire straight cord, part number RM-152-98146-7.First thing I want to talk to you about is what the diodes do. Diodes are going to be connected to the factory wiring on your towed vehicle. They're going to protect your vehicle from any feedback from your RV. Because your RV or your towed vehicle is getting that signal from your RV, that power is running through wires to your towed vehicle's lights. Those diodes are going to stop any feedback, any shorts or anything like that from your RV getting into the factory wiring on your car, in turn protecting it.This wiring kit's going to be one of five main components in a flat towed set up. The other four are going to be your base plate, your tow bar, your safety cables, and your braking system. more

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2008 Ford Edge

Speaker 1: Today on our 2008 Ford Edge we're gonna take a look at and show you how to install the Hopkins custom taillight wiring kit for towed vehicles, part number is HM56000. Now a towed vehicle wiring harness is gonna be the perfect solution for enabling you to plug your motor home into the front of your vehicle and the lights work on the back so we can stay legal and have the signals we need. Now when the motor home sends the signal in it's gonna run through the wiring harness and to our diode converter. Here it's gonna be converted into a usable signal that our vehicle will recognize and operate the lights for us. We've got T connector harnesses that are gonna plug directly in to our factory connectors for the drivers side here and also for the passengers side so there's no splicing or cutting of our vehicle's wiring harness required. Now the diode harness is a very nice feature to have, this is gonna allow us to separate the two vehicle wiring systems. As we're using our car's lighting system we're not gonna have any back feed going up to our motor home plug area and when we're using our motor home signal as those signals come in they're not gonna be looped around and then sent into the vehicle system. It's a great way to protect our vehicle, our motor home to keep everything isolated at the same time. Now to get our harness installed we're gonna take off the taillight housings on each side, we'll use an eight millimeter socket and we want to take out the two screws that hold the housing in place. more
